Why do these people own dogs?

i was out with my bf tonight, and he was doing deliveries for a local takeaway. We went to a house in the rougher part of town, and walking down the street was a gorgeous brindle crossbreed. I recognised her immediately, I had seen her a good few weeks ago (probably about 5 or 6) on the same street wandering around.

While he went to deliver the food, I put the car window down and gave her a stroke. She was such a friendly girl, and had the sweetest eyes (I was tempted to bundle her into the car). Her fur was soaking (it was raining and very windy).

Why do people have dogs to just let them wander around the streets?? Don’t they care what happens to their dogs? What if she gets hit by a car? or gets attacked?

The first time I saw her, I wasn’t sure why she was out but she came out of a garden so assumed she wasn’t a stray, even though she had no collar. But tonight I was so shocked to see she is still wandering the streets! she has a good weight to her, and appears to be healthy so I really don’t think she is a stray.

Im going to go back a few times, and see if and when she is out. and im very tempted to report them, a dog shouldn’t be out in the street when the weather is as it is just now. Im just hoping that her owners have a shelter for her so she can choose to go in there when she wants…

This also comes, after me speaking to a woman today who said her friend has a young lab, who has been repeatedly attacked by SBTs in another area close to me. And this is because people let their dogs wander the streets, and they are apparently practically wild! With next to no socialisation! Its people like these that give this poor breed a bad name!

Why do people get dogs to treat them this way? I could never have jake out on the street off lead, never mind completely alone!

I feel the same way about people around here who let their cats wander the streets with all the coyotes and cars about. Don't they care what happens to their pet?

I have no idea why they do. Their minds are a closed book to me, I don't understand them.

Poor thing, I would have bundled it into the car and handed it to the dog warden. Perhaps if it hit thier pockets each time thier poor dog was out there straying they may take some responsibility.

I would be beside my self with fear and panic if any of my dogs ever got out.

Poor dog. I don't know if the sspca would do anything though as they need to have an exact address to go to or at least that's what they told me. It's not like Animal Cops Detroit where they seem to have greater powers.

I take your point about worrying about a cat if it was out and about..I used to worry when my cat was first let out after being a flat cat but actually he sticks pretty close to home. Also I don't think there are many coyotes in Motherwell so that wouldn't ever be a problem Thankfully!

i wish they did have more power, they really should have more.

lol, i just thought i had been missing the coyotes my aunt stays in mull, and her cat got hit by a car and killed. comparing the single track quiet roads in mull to the roads around here, i wouldnt give a cat a chance. lots obviously do survive, but my luck wouldnt swing that way
