I am terrible with heights usually.... I can't go up a ladder.... but its not so bad on the horses - they are all very nice natured neddies and really look after their riders

not very good with horsey phrases (so apologise) is cantering quicker than trotting?

the second and last time i went on a pony in a group the instructor announced we were of for a canter.........blo*dy hell how are you meant stop bouncing on the saddle :smt009

i could hear my friends and sister telling me to try and control my movements.....CONTROL i did well to stay on the saddle.

sore really was an understatement :smt044

Yep, cantering is faster than trotting, although its actually more comfy when you get the hang of it Its a more natural pace (I feel) for the horse too, you just have to sit deep in the saddle and maintain your position (especially when out on a hack and Josh and Smudge decide to have a race )

Its no good trying to canter though until you have a good established sitting trot so you can make the transition by sitting and squeezing with your legs (or just asking by voice in Josh's case). It can actually be very scary until you have a secure seat and the confidence to sit deeply You did very well to stay on if you didn't feel you were ready!

i think the canter lasted less than 2 minutes but was so relieved to dismount.

the other thing i couldnt get use to was having to stand up when the pony needed a wee....which was often.......my thigh muscles were in agony. :smt081

yep leave riding to those that know what they are doing and look good on a horse.

it was a good experience though to have.

If I won the lottery I would have more horses than I dare think about. I would go and buy the really sorry ones from the sales and save them all from the meat man. I just LOVE them. I have 4 and I have to sit on my hands not to get any more!

I'm not scare of horses Bitsy, but I'm terrified of cows

my vet thinks its hilarious that I am not scared of Smudge who is 16hh and about 3/4 of a ton, but I am frightened to death of weeny cows

I got chased by a bunch once - took 5 years off my life expectancy!
