Getting my puppy in 6 weeks!!!!

wasnt planned this early lol!!

the plan was - (in this order)
- move house
- search for puppy
- find puppy and buy puppy - like jan/feb time

the order it happened was

- get phonecall off mum - friends dog has had pups and they are only a week old
- go see pups
- choose 2 which i like

(will decided which one of 2 i will have in a few weeks when they are grown more!!)

so - i have still not moved house - but have found puppy!! hehe

pics to follow!!!

she's a springer spaniel x border collie - looks border collie until you see the ears!! lol!! mum's a stunner - pups are adorable -

what am i going to do for another 6 weeks??!!!

few questions because this is so important i want to make sure everything goes ok!!!::::

- - how old are they when they open their eyes??
- what is your opinions (please no fights!) as to how old you woudl take them home?? (obviously after weaning - which is at what age??)

she's a little over a week old now (i think) - will check - so i maek it 1/2nd week in december when she's 6/7 weeks old??

my last dogs were 8 and 12 weeks when i brought them home

thanks in advance!!!!

They open their eyes around 12 days - 2 weeks old.

I would personally take a pup home at 8 weeks, although I have taken pups at 7 and a few days. I would say 6 is too young, IMO.

Weaning starts at about 3 weeks.

And a have a borderXspringer boy, Charlie, he is 4 i'll get a pic....

They need the socialisation and learning they get from mum and their litter mates. They learn a lot in those first few weeks, how to be a dog. The weaning only starts at around 3 weeks, it takes time for them to be completely on solids. Plus even when they are on solids they still need mums milk too for a while.

My pups do not leave me until at least 8 weeks, those few weeks before they leave mum and siblings, mum is teaching them alot without you realising.

Eyes open anything from 10 days +

And I also wouldn't let you come to see them until they were 3 weeks old.....not getting at you, but the pups immunity is too weak and they can pick up anything and everything just from your hands, clothes, footwear, walking where mum may be able to walk the germs back into the whelping box.

Weaning starts around 2/3 weeks old and my pups are still taking feeds from mum right up to the time they leave.....not often, all those sharp teeth aren't nice on poor mum.

I dont allow visitors to my pups before 4-5 weeks....and they dont go to new homes before 8 weeks.
eyes will open from about 10 day onward, although seeing things in focus takes a while longer! ears open later (toward the end of the third week).

good luck with your new pup.
