Information Please - sterile nodular panniculitis

Hello all members of Dogsey.com, my sisters dog has got sterile nodular panniculitis, (lumps on its skin that the vet has removed twice but keep coming back).
Has anyone had this problem with their pet and what can help cure it if its possible to cure.
Hope you can shed some light on this complaint, the vet does not seem to know much about it and its becoming expensive. Thank you. Tim

Hi Tim and welcome to Dogsey
I don't know a lot about this conditions, (I think Panniculitis and sterile inflammatory nodules are slightly different things). I would imagine as they are inflammatory they will probably be treated with steroids and depending on the severity of the condition will either clear up or need more intense treatment.
Does your sister have her dog insured.
The vet treating the dog is really the person to ask because he can evaluate the severity of this particular dogs case..

My pup had sterile Idiopathic Nodular Panniculitis & he was treated with high dose steroids & high dose vitamin E.

How was it diagnosed & how did your vet remove the nodules/lumps, my pups lumps couldn`t be removed? We just had to wait for them to be burst & heal up.

Its an auto immune disease & as such has no cure but can be controlled. If your vet doesn`t know much about it he`ll have to get in touch with a teaching vet university/hospital & speak to a specialist about it
