Puppies First Jabs!

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone out there come across this before, We collected Max on December the 23rd (not a xmas present) And he came with a vets booklet with a vaccination listed (canigen mha2p virbac) it is spanish so not had much look tracing it on google, he'd had the jab on 18/12/06 it said in the booklet/breeder said return to our vets on the 12/01/07(today) for the 2nd jab i presumed that he would be allowed out in two weeks to the big wide world

But my vet say's that the first jab was a puppy vaccination and he now need's 2 more jab's like the one given today (eurican mhppi2-1 mhppl2 and eurican mhppi2-l L) says this is for older dogs and we have to go back in 1 month for the next jab i'm a bit concerened that he will then be 16 weeks old and not have been out of the garden or socilised with anyone other than family and freinds and people that come to us..Will the first jab have no effect on illness's and germs etc that can be picked up,

I know that 12 weeks on is a valuable learning time for a puppy to learn and gain exprience's to shape there future temprement i worried im going to end up with a scared and timid dog

I don't know if im naive but all the reading seems to point to one set of injections given twice at 8 weeks then a 12 then your free to play out..

Maybe its a spanish thing if anyone has come accross this before or as any thoughts on the going out issue i'd love to hear from you

Hello MJ I can't help you with the vaccination i'm afraid, you need to take that up with your vet because the requirement where you live could differ from here.

Regarding the socialisation, even if your puppy is not vaccinated you can take it out and about wherever you go as long as you carry it and don't allow it to go on the ground where other dogs have been.

Hi Mj, I`m in Spain too but a lot further south

Canigen as made by the firm Virbac.
Eurocan is made by the firm Merial.

The M stands for moquilla which is Distemper.
H stands for Hepatitis/Adnovirus.
P is for Parvo
Pi for Parainfluenza
And L or l for Leptospirosis

The links below will take you to a website in UK, which both firms are a member of & where data for their products is published. You can read what each firm says about how many vax are needed to give immunity, doesn`t matter which country in Europe you`re in. There`s also a link that`ll take you to Merial in Spain.

How old was your dog when he had the first vax & did the breeder do it herself? And how old is he now?
