Dog insurance help please

I've had 2 quotes, one from PetPlan and one from M&S
Both have life time cover.
PetPlan quoted me £23 p/m and £80 excess
£im 3rd party
Maximum £4000 per year

M&S quoted £11 p/m and £80 excess
£2m 3rd party
up to £7ooo per year
plus other benfits which PetPlan are not giving.

It seems to me that M&S are offering almost double cover at half the price.

Has anyone had any dealings with M&S
Advise appreciated please

I wanted to change from More Than to M&S but a week before changing Star was diagnosed with a heart murmur, so changing insurance I would not be covered.

M&S looks really good and I would have changed to their policy.

Have you checked that m&s don't exclude? Thats very important.
I'm with Pet Pals (Domestic and General). I've got to say they've been excellent. Always paid up straight away, no questions asked. They don't exclude, and provide lifetime cover without putting up the premium or the excess. The excess is £40. They are on a par with M&S's price.

Hi Snoopy, no existing conditions can be covered by the new policy, so Stars murmur would not be covered if she ever needed treatment whereas because we were with More Than for a year before it was discovered they will pay for the treatment if needed.

The only thing I would add to insurance is don't use E & L - they are rubbish! A rescue dog I had in kennels passed away a few weeks ago and E & L are refusing to pay up.

The things to be wary of are the 12 month limit per condition and excesses. Many insurers bang up the excess when your dog reaches eight and it becomes a set amount plus a percentage of the claim. Some also apply an excess per calendar year. Pinnacle did this and I ended up paying ridiculous excesses - I wouldn't recommend them either, they were hopeless!

I used to be with Dog Breeders for years until they got taken over by Pet Plan - I'm now with Direct Line but not had any cause to claim yet so don't know what they are like. They have always been good with my household claims though.
