M & S Insurance question please

I recently put in a claim (£900) with M & S, and I got a letter back yesterday (a week after submitting claim ish) stating they are currently assessing my claim and would be in touch again later. Is this normal with M & S please?? Usually, I just get a cheque in the post after making a claim? I'm getting worried coz although they said they renewed it in February I didn't receive any documents to that effect, and when I last rang them they said they had written down the wrong expiry date on my card, but I WAS insured, even though I got a letter saying because it hadn't been renewed they had cancelled it!!! Grrrrrr. I wish I had that in writing, although 3 times they have told me I am definitely insured and calls are recorded so I might win the day!

My dogs used to be insured with M&S and I seem to recall I got a letter confirming they had received my claim and they would be in touch again further after I made a claim, so I think it is normal

Thanks Moobli, let's hope so! £900 will be a lot to find if they can wriggle out of it like they do!

Yes that is what happens with M&S. I got that letter a few weeks ago to say they had Finn's claim and soon I will receive one to say they have paid the vet direct with X amount.

Thanks Carole, but my new vet won't accept those terms any more, I had to get the good old plastic out and pay it!

Yes, I always get an acknowledgement letter like that too from M&S.
