We've got a big dog! Apparently...

The postman's just been with some parcels for my mum and he asked my uncle who's building the walls around the garden to take them in for him because 'they've got a big dog'

My uncle said 'it's only a dalmatian!'

Just made me laugh! To be fair Takara does go a bit crazy when the post comes!

Lottie I guess it depends what size the postman is..
If he is short say 5ft tall Takara will look big to him

haha! Yes! I never thought of that...
To be fair, she's got a 'big bark'... oh well - less chance of getting burgled!!

I didn't realise how small Dalies are till I saw Takoda stand next to one when we met one the other week, I asked if they were pups but one of them was his age (1) and one of them was 2.

They were real cute though, but your right I wouldn't say they were big dogs

Mychievous - the breed standard is quite small but before I got Takara I had met some really big dals! There are two at training that are huge but I too was surprised at how small they are! Takara's smaller than a lab!

I call her my little midget but even she is at the larger end of the breed standard for a bitch!

I think dalmations are quite big but then I am only small.

If the postie isn't too keen on dogsthey probably seem much bigger than they are!

Are they not classed as medium size dogs? 'bout the same as weimies. But then it doesn't really matter the size of the dog really compared to what a norty one could do if it got hold the posite! I heard JRT's give the worst postie bites

myschievous -

Breed Standard:
Bitches - 22-23" at the shoulders
Dogs - 23-24" at the shoulders

Takara's 23" and Ed's about the same!

Brandiesnap - this is true, but I think he was going on her bark which does sound a bit scary I have to admit!

Kel - yes, they're medium. I totally agree! I'd be far more worried about stepping foot in a garden with a JRT than a dally!!!

The problem with dallies is they're so excitable and some can reach your shoulders if they stand on their back legs to give you a kiss!
Although Takara has a habit of aiming for the balls instead
