Yes indeedy! In about a month's time, it will be doubly true - in mid-June, the sun barely sets here! It goes down for about an hour, but it doesn't get dark!

The "Twilight Zone" derives from another board, when one of my posts was answered with "Where do you live? The Twilight Zone?". Rather than argue, I decided to go along with it, as it is rather suitable for Orkney (They think Victoria is still on the throne, up here! ).

In some places, my Border Boys are known as the "TZBCs"

Questions, questions, questions!

Ho-hum! All these pics taken @ Snorri Mansions (first pic in the slideshow), where nearest human neighbour is about 150 yards away! Actual nearest neighbour is a sheep. Or rather, several sheep!

Horror stories - well, there used to be! The tale of Rip van Winkle (where he sleeps 100 years) was written by the son of an emigrant Orcadian, based on the idea that the prehistoric burial cairns were inhabited by "Trowies" (trolls) who would entice you down to a 100-year party!

Winter is the exact opposite - often dark by 4 pm!

Yes, an old "stone pig" hot water bottle! That one is cracked (it got kicked out of bed ), so it's deco only now. Have two more, though!

The stove you can see is gone now, too, although we got a new one when that one burst its hot-water tank (bl**dy expensive!). The new one is better, looks nicer and has an antique copper kettle on top

No push-button program stuff here! If you can't mend it with a hammer, don't buy it!

Snorri

P.S. - house used to sleep NINE people once, before it was extended: basically, it was a stone box with a chimney at each end. It's on an old map dated 1859, but not on an 1849 one.

A bottle of wine, a couple of cans of cider and some home-brewed lager. One has to have priorities!
