We just met a "bilingual labradoodle"......!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the park today was a guy with what I thought was a young black Labrador puppy. Absolutely gorgeous little dog!

We got talking and he told me his dog was in fact a "labradoodle" or as they should rightly surely be called, a Lab X Poodle.

I have met quite a lot of "labradoodles' and my cousin owns one, but have never seen one like this - apparently her mother was a "huge" black Lab, and her father was a miniature Poodle!

Her owner then started giving her commands in German - and he told me that " the language that dogs best understand is German".....

I've never heard before that dogs find it easier to learn/understand German than any other language so must admit I was a tad bemused - is there any merit in what he says??

He regaled me with tales of how he's trained his dog to do 'everything and anything'. He had her all but turning cartwheels she was so well trained. Meanwhile my darling Dexter was busy with his head stuck in my bag searching for treats......

I realise that any "labradoodle" could favour the Lab parent - has anyone else seen one that literally looks just like a young/small Lab??

She was sooooo cute!

No doubt Vizslak do better when spoken to in Humgarian, Salukis in Arabic and BSDs in Flemish?

Ahemmmmmmmmm

There are those who speak to their dog in German in Schutzhund, personally I thnk this is rather pretentious...............

It is due to the words sounding more "ahem" like what is wanted.

eg Platz for down, Hier for come etc.

It is amazing how I have struggled along all these years.................

LOL

Must admit, he's the first fellow dog owner I've encountered who gives commands in a second language, as he himself was British and not German.
