Random hip pain?

One of my dogs has random hip pain and it is very strange so I wondered if anyone has any suggestions... 2 or 3 times now he has whimpered or yelped when moving around, walking or going up steps, he even cries if you touch him lightly on his side however this pain is extremely short lived, just 10 minutes later he can be absolutely fine?

The Vet has examined him a while ago and everything seems fine, he had a course of Metacam just in case and we also put him on YuMove joint supplement, he has been fine for a couple of months but noticed him whimpering again yesterday, again only temporarily, then fine again running around playing etc?

Any advice or experience welcomed, The dog is 8 years old.

Many thanks

It could honestly be anything. Maybe he knocks it, sleeps uncomfortably causing the odd ache. Maybe something more serious like arthritis or HD.

If it's really troubling him, then maybe an x-ray is in order

Sounds like he might have a spur of bone moving around. Xray would show this and then it could be removed or smoothed off if still attached to hipbone.

Definitely talk to your vet, get an x-ray done, could be something that happened while he was playing, walking, running or during any activity and if it is an injury due to those things, medical attention would probably be necessary. If it is due to something like arthritis or HD, I would also speak to a vet about that but there are simple things you can due like switch up their diet, get them an orthopedic bed, or give them supplements that help with joint pain.
