Dogs diet and behaviour

Hello all,

I am just doing some research into what people have fed their dog and whether this has had an effects on their behaviour.

For example if you fed them Brand X food and noticed that the dog became aggressive and when I changed to brand y this stopped.

If you could let me know:
- dogs breed
- dogs age at the time of the behaviour changes
- dogs gender
- what the dog was fed which led to the behaviour change
- what the behaviour exhibited was
- did you change their food again
- how did this effect their behaviour
- any further comments

Thanks

Kim

That's OK - I'm completing my Kennel Club Accredited instructor course and you have to complete a project. This is something that's interested me for a while so just wanted to get some different peoples opinions and experiences.

Hope this helps

Fair enough

- dogs breed
GSD

- dogs age at the time of the behaviour changes
1

- dogs gender
bitch

- what the dog was fed which led to the behaviour change
Bakers Complete

- what the behaviour exhibited was
Hyperactivity and increased aggression

- did you change their food again
Yes

- how did this effect their behaviour
She became calmer - less twitchy

- any further comments
I rehomed a Rescue dog and had problems getting her to eat Burns. I tried her on Bakers as an experiment and as I thought she wolfed it down. The behaviour change was totally expected so I put her on Arden Grange and she improved.
She`s on Raw now which she enjoys and which suits her.

An unusual one for you as it is probably bucks the trend a wee bit (but does show how different foods can suite different dogs).

If you could let me know:
- dogs breed
Border collie

- dogs age at the time of the behaviour changes
Approx 6 years old

- dogs gender
female (spayed)

- what the dog was fed which led to the behaviour change
Burns High Oats

- what the behaviour exhibited was
Short tempered. intollerant of other dog in the house (snapping, snarling, staring down etc) generally moody and grumpy

- did you change their food again
Yes to Arden Grange

- how did this effect their behaviour
No better

So changed again to Skinners maintenance

- any further comments

This dog was a rescue who was grossly overweight when taken on and she needed to be on a strict diet.

Tried the better quality foods to start with but soon noticed her temperament. Process of elimination we realised that the hungrier she was, the worse her temper was.

So, we eventually changed to a fairly low quality food which had a much higher feeding guide amount than the better quality foods. This meant we could give her reduced quantities of this food and she was still more satisified than a 'normal' serving of the better quality foods. Result - happy household and skinnier dog.
