Poppy, Fell Terrier, DOB 06

Poppy, Fell Terrier, DOB 06

Her Story: Poppy has had a hard life and she is still only 4 years old. Rescued by a disabled lady from a family who tied her up to a stairwell and fed her human leftovers ... they had taken her in from her puppy home where she'd grown up with 4 children and 2 cats kept in the bathroom to avoid her chewing things. Her owner took her in as they were giving her away. They then came and took her back only for her to hear they'd given her into the RSPCA. She is now living without a garden and is frightened on her walks outside never having been socialised. We have taken her into kennels and she is learning to tolerate and feel safe around dogs.

Homing Requirement: Poppy needs a terrier experienced family to help her unravel her frustrated energy and offer her the skills and opportunities she so deserves. She needs to learn to walk in the company of 'safe tolerant' dogs as she is doing with us. She needs a secure garden and exit management and above all begin to find herself and believe in herself. She needs to discover how she tames her terrier instincts and funny little ways.

Advert: Poppy is the sweetest thing by nature, but at a loss currently. She has suffered a sad, neglectful life. Her last owner loved her, but didn't have the circumstance or situation to give her the skills she so needs, but she got true love. She now is trying to understand kennels and our voluntary dog walkers are giving her the opportunity to feel safe outside on a lead in a low dog density setting. She is on occasions walking beside other dogs which initially she shows signs of great concern, but is beginning to experience safety in another dog's company - parallel walking.

Well isn't she a sweetheart. She needs 'just the right' family. Dog experienced with acute awareness as to how she can be guided to develop confidence and begin to address her skill deficit. She will come right, things haven't worked out for her in the past other than her saviour has offered her her heart and now placed her with Terrier Rescue to help her with the very best of care. Poppy is beginning to settle.

"Please note Poppy is currently in boarding kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found".

Lynne:

"Poppy is another Tizzy Lizzy in the kennels. She soon settled outside. Rigged her out with a new collar and harness. Lovely time in the magical woods but anxious to get back at times bless her. Tiny little terrier; couldn't get her size against the bluebells- they were standing 2" taller than her. She does her little 'marky wees' as she goes along busy and happy. Very comfortable on her walk today. Very easy to pick her up".

Poppy

An update from one of our walkers on Sunday ...

“Out with the effervescent Poppy today Took my extender lead , and my, what a different dog. Perfectly easy to walk , happy to potter, most charming and happy. No pulling what-so-ever ! So will remember to bring this along in future. Practiced our stop and come: really do think she has improved today, so made for a very enjoyable walk. Once nearer kennels the usual pulling kicked back in, but this is quite normal for a lot of the dogs in kennels. Definitely saw a different side to Poppy for lead walking today, a most pleasant surprise”.

Another update from a different walker on Monday ...

“Poppy had a lovely social walk with Spangle today. She was a little hysterical for the first 10 minutes, but could be distract with voice. She did settle however and once settled walked beautifully next to Spangle then tolerating being around each other and neutral in their inter mixing at quite close quarters”.

Great fun!!! Where's my bacon sandwich!

An update from Lynne:

"Pretty Poppy had a superb walk today. Didn't meet a soul and she was so easy to walk; enjoying her walk at such a lovely pace. Just a little uptight as we approached the kennels..terriers always brace themselves with a 'raring to get to you bravado!'"

An update from Lynne who walked Poppy yesterday:

"Poppy came out and joined us whilst we had a cuppa coffee today. Then Spangle joined us and they soon settled AT opposite sides of the table. Off we went on our walk and 2 secs in Poppy was settled and these 2 could have intermingled with one another they were so at ease and comfortable in each others company. Walked next to each other and touching.

Poppy walked in to her new kennels and settled ready for the evening".

Poppy is still looking for a foster or forever home.

Poppy waved her friend Spangle off into foster this afternoon ...

My turn next?

Poppy is currently in boarding kennels and would also benefit from a foster home until her forever home comes along. Can you help?
