Best way to Introduce another dog?

we presently have a northen inuit called cassie and because of her past she is very shy and even cowed down when out.
my o/h has had a think about this and has desided that cassie needs a companion. my o/h has found someone who needs to rehome a 10 month old akita, so i was wondering if the akitas owner thinks we are sutable and we like the dog if anybody has any suggestions on how to intergate them?
thanks mark

Akitas are not always great at integrating with other dogs and I personally would be wary of introducing this breed in particular to a dog that already has socialisation issues. Akitas are known to be a domineering breed toward other dogs. I fear introducing this particular dog, particularly at the age when it is reaching sexual maturity and therefore at it's 'pushiest' would do more harm than good to your sensitive girl.

From what I understand, N. Inuits are very much pack dogs and your girl may well benefit from having a companion but with her disposition, it may be better to introduce a puppy of a gentler nature in time. In the meantime, concentrate on trying to boost your girl's confidence with as many positive interactions with gentle, friendly dogs as possible.

Really the best reason to get another dog is because you want one not because your dog needs a companion

Is the Akita a dog or a bitch and why is it being rehomed? If your dog is already 'shy' it could be a big mistake getting another dog of a powerful breed which may dominate her. It won't help the Akita either to be passed from home to home if things don't work out.
If you really want another dog I would say your best option is to get a dog puppy .

thank s minihaha
weve taken on board your input. the akita is a dog and its being rehomed because its not show quality. as forit not being in the akitas best intrest i can only go by how we had cassie, we never had her till she was 10 or11 months old an exmate of mine spun me some yarn but in truth was beeting her and was going to get rid of her by fair means or foul as long as it didnt cost him any money. im not saying th akitas owners are like that but if it did come to us it would be to a good home. in a real world no dogs should need to be rehomed but not every body is like you and me. we have only cassies best interest at heart ,we have even canselled our new year holliday to gran canerier just so she willnot be on her own ,and i'll miss her to much.we wouldnt mind another dog we have the space and the time we just want to see cassie happy.
