Larry - Lucky Black Lurcher Lad - 2 years old

* UPDATED JANUARY 2014 *

Location: Kennels in Suffolk. Larry would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.
Key Points: Lively, young, lacking in confidence, not house trained, nervous,boisterous but very bright and shows huge potential. Improving every day in leaps and bounds. Shows signs of separation anxiety at this early stage.

We were lucky enough to be able to offer young Larry a rescue space from death row in a pound (his time having been well and truly up). He is a gorgeous black lurcher of approximately 2 years of age who is most definitely a boy in looks bless him and although his coat is a little dull at the moment, with some TLC and good food in his tummy you will soon be able to see your reflection!

~ Personality ~
Poor Larry has pretty much everything going against him but we at Kerry Greyhounds don't discriminate! Being black, boisterous and a having maybe a bit of staffie in his mix means that so many people will simply look straight through him but don't go just yet.... This little man is showing huge potential if adopted by the right person who is willing to put time into training and give a lot of love, patience and reassurance. He has the sweetest face which can look so worried at times and he is still young enough to be 'moulded' into a lovely family dog. He really likes other dogs both big and small although he can be a little 'over zealous' with personal space at the moment. Larry seriously needs to polish his manners in the 'doggy department' but so desperately wants to be included it breaks your heart. The kind folk at the kennels can't believe how much progress he's making every day so lets prove the majority wrong and find this little fella a home as soon as possible!

~ In the Home ~
Poor Larry hasn't had the luxury of being in a home yet so would need someone experienced and kind to help him understand the whole 'concept' but we feel he is a clever boy so it shouldn't take too long. It generally takes greyhounds/lurchers 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience although because of Larry's past he may take a little longer.

~ Other Animals ~
Larry loves other dogs both big, small, young and old but he does need consistent, gentle training to give him the manners he needs to learn. He has not yet been cat tested but this can be arranged prior to adoption if needed, although initial signs are that Larry is not suitable to live in a home with a cat.

~ Out and About ~
Larry just loves to be out and about but constantly looks to you for reassurance and does pull on the lead to begin with. He needs to burn off energy so it would be lovely for someone to work on his recall so he can enjoy life to the full. He loves his treats and responds very well to them so training should be a doddle for that special someone up for the challenge!

~ Where Can I Live ~
Larry would suit an active family, couple or single person who is looking to enjoy training with him and carry on socialising so he reaches his full potential. We also feel he will need to live with at least one existing dog to show him the ropes and keep him company and no children under the age of 12 please as (at the moment) he jumps up and could knock them over by accident.

~ Where Am I? ~
Larry is currently in kennels in Suffolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to Suffolk to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Larry will be neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home, we are always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Hamlet, you can contact me (Bronwen) via email: bronwen@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk or you can speak to me directly by phoning: 075 000 62648.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page or Fostering Page.

Thank you.

* UPDATED JUNE 2014 *

Larry was left in the pound to die and sadly there is simply no other way to put it. Larry is still very much a baby at aprox 2 years of age and 65cm to the shoulder. He is a lovely, handsome black Lurcher mixed most likely with Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He is a clever boy but can be very nervous/tense and REALLY needs a Fairy Godmother to offer him a home where he can finally relax and be guided to reach his full potential and we think Larry would be fab at agility!

He has been in kennels too long now being constantly over looked and the situation is making Larry very unhappy as he hates being returned to his kennel situation after being walked. He can be dominant with other dogs but he is not aggressive. Just desperate for someone experienced with dogs to keep going with his training and to love him. Since Larry was neutered his behaviour has improved and he has been much cleaner in his kennel. He can also now sit and give his paw for treats. One member of the kennel staff loves Larry dearly but sadly her dog didn't like him so he has missed out on the ONLY possible home offer so far. PLEASE, PLEASE contact us is you feel you could offer Larry a forever home or even to foster him as we would dearly love for his situation to change for the better.

We would recommend that Larry wears a harness when out walking to help with his pulling.

Larry would suit an active family, couple or single person who is looking to enjoy training with him and carry on socialising so he reaches his full potential. We also feel he would prefer to live with a quiet female dog to show him the ropes and keep him company OR he would be equally happy as an only dog if his 'person' or 'people' are genuinely at home the majority of the time. No children under the age of 16 please as (at the moment) he jumps up and could knock them over by accident.

Keep coming back to this lad.

Old Skye is getting older by the day LOL - a year from now and and Larry would be perfect.

Hi is a really lovely lad, he just doesn't like being in kennels, so his true potential is not being seen.

Hopefully he will be moving into a foster home in a couple of weeks where I'm sure he will blossom into a wonderful boy.
