I know several people who have had dogs with this - they have all had the surgery.

The last one was a 5 month old BC - she took her up to a specialist to have it done. It was a very hard 6 weeks rest afterwards but she did loads of mentaly stimulating stuff and got through it....

The dog is now 2 and sucsessfully competing at Agility and HtM although her opwner is careful not to push her.

Surgery is dependant on the dog. Labradors get this quite a bit. Its when bits of cartiledge break off from the surface of the joints, these are called "joint Mice" they float around in the joint space and cause the dog pain and discomfort.

Some Vets will say no surgery and a restricted lifestyle is best, others will say exercise makes no odds. My friends Lab had the op to remove the "mice" and she was fine afterwards, she was never "sound" all the time, but lived a long life with no real problems associated with that condition.
