For anyone who has now, or used to have, a dog with food allergies?

Our vet thinks Dexter has a food allergy or intolerance, since he constantly suffers with itchy ears and now itchy paws also...

At present he's on a really bland, hypoallergenic kibble while I try to work out which food(s) trigger the problem, assuming it is a food.

Just wondering what those of you who have a dog with allergies feed?

Many thanks for any answers

I rehomed a dog who had chronic ear infections. I put him on raw and he never had another one.

What is it that you are feeding at present?

I have know people have success with kibble that contains white fish - have you tried any of them?

It depends what triggers the problem, with this dog it could not tolerate grains, when grains were removed from the diet, he was fine.

Boo had a red stained chest and feet when I got him. He's on a grain-free fish based diet and his licking of feet has stopped. His ears were also a bit smelly, though they didn't bother him, but the smell is also gone.

Grains and Chicken are the most common allergies for dogs, according to my vet.

Toby has been much better since putting him on wainrights salmon and potato. We think he is also allergic to some form of plant/grass as all his skin/ears etc cleared up when it snowed and he has been really good over the cold winter, but as soon as the sun came out and all the plants started growing he has started itching again

I feed Etta fish4dogs with Burns as a back up if it doesn't arrive. Treats are fish4dogs treats or JWB or Burns. She has antler and raw marrow bone and VERY occasionally she has a treat which might contain grains of some sort.

She was hugely ill on autarky and nearly died, lymph glands were up where I didn't know anyone had them!

She also has beef jerky, pigs ears and various other treats for training and kongs.

Interesting thread!!

Ted has gone through the prescription diet test (Hill's z/d). During the 4 weeks he was on it he had 2 ear infections!! Diet has been ruled out and now trying to find out what his allergy is. Has had 2 swabs done from his ear and both have come back with negative results although there was definitely infection there!! Stop treating the infection and it is back in 2 days. Now waiting to hear from my vet re blood tests and possibly referal to a skin specialist. I would be very interested to hear about anyone else's experience with this!

Hi I have studied and passed an exam in canine nutrition although it was many many years ago now. But I have also had dogs myself that have had bad food intolerances/allergies.
If you can let me know exactly what you feed your dog, including any treats etc I may be able to help.
