What's better than Bakers???

Hello

I am new and in need of dietary advice.

Rory is a (very big) cross border collie, he's four and a half and has always been fed on Bakers.

After reading lots of not very good things about Bakers I want to change him to something healthier.

He has no problem with dry food and he also could do with loosing a bit of weight. He is very active.

I would be grateful for any advice, I feel like I've been a very bad mum (on a level with how I felt when I found out what went into chicken nuggets!!!).

Thanks
Susie

pmsl at the chicken nuggets comparison!!

Basically there are many good dry foods but not all suit all dogs as with anything.

Burns is very good
Arden Grange
JWB

I also recommend naturediet and wainwrights as two good wet foods too.

depends on your budget too.
good luck
dani

Chicken Nuggets Ewwww
Anything is better than Bakers imo
All previously mentioned foods are great. If the pocket is a bit on the shallow side, then Jolleys own brand Life Stage, or Harringtons are quite good too!!!

Harringtons you can buy on line or from Asda. Although you can only get the small bags at Asda, the larger, more affordable you can get here. This page has their e mail, but look through the rest of the site, full of info.

IMO pretty much anything is better than Bakers!!!

All the above, or Autarky, Skinners, CSJ (these are a working dog food so will suit a BC)

Hi - if your dog`s been on Bakers which is highly flavoured he might sulk at the change, but please persevere. I found Burns suited one dog but was loathed by another, and they tended to lose weight on it. Arden Grange is eaten by all of them with huge enjoyment - though I do put a little Butchers Tripe Mix tinned food in as I have a skinny girl and she needs a bit of encouragement.

Thanks very much for great advice

I've checked out the Harringtons website and am going to try this as I happen to be going to Asda tomorrow. Will get the small bag and then order more if it suits Rory.

Liked the idea of Yucca which 'helps reduce unpleasant odours from flatulence' - what a bonus!!!
