Dogs getting grey

When do dogs typically start to get grey/white patches?

I think Loki has some but he's only 7. It's just a small patch, kind of at the back of his head and you'd never notice it with his colouring if you didn't know him. I hate to think of him getting old.

My ex's GSP had a greying muzzle at 2 years old. I've seen her lately at 4.5 years and her muzzle is totally grey.

Flynn has the odd white hair appearing on his face here and there but I pull them out (he's 4.5). I cant tell with the collies because their muzzles are white anyway. Many people think Jed is old because of the colouring on his face when in actual fact, it's always been there!

We think Mindy (adopted) is only about 16 months old, and her bottom lip is showing signs of grey (aww)

So it can happen quite young then? Same as people, I guess.

Mindy will probably qualify for the next 'Grecian 2000' advert by the time she is two!!

I feel better now. I know 7 is not young but it made me really sad to see the little patch of grey.

Louis 5 and hasn't got any. Last dog did have some but not much and think he was well over 10 when they started coming through, if memory serves they came as a little moustache (how cool) and then it spread a little more as he got older

I think grey is endearing.... I think that it marks that they are taking further steps to growing up and becoming more 'sensible'
