Can Vitamin C help kill off disease and protect me(& dog

Vitamin C may cure West Nile Virus
Fear of mosquito bite transmission of West Nile Virus continues to be high as local news sources report on deaths associated with this pathogen. Water fountains are being drained and the sale of insect repellant is brisk. To date, according to conventional medical authorities, there is no effective human vaccine against West Nile Virus.

But Thomas E. Levy MD, a Denver physician, reports he has successfully treated two cases with intravenous vitamin C. [Boulder Weekly June 4, 2004] Dr. Levy is author of Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins: Curing the Incurable and a proponent of high-dose vitamin C therapy.

It was decades ago that Dr. Frederick Klenner, a North Carolina physician, reported on the successful treatment of polio, mumps and encephalitis with intravenous vitamin C. [Southern Medicine and Surgery, July 1949; The Vitamin treatment for acute poliomyelitis, Southern Medical Journal August, Volume 114, 194-7, 1952; Massive Doses of Vitamin C and the Viral Diseases, Southern Medical Journal, April, 113: 101-07, 1951; Journal of Applied Nutrition Vol. 23, No’s 3 & 4, Winter 1971] West Nile virus produces symptoms of encephalitis.

Many of the deaths reported due to West Nile Virus are among the elderly or people with compromised immune systems. In 80 percent of people with West Nile virus, there are no symptoms. This probably means their immune system is able to resist a full-blown infection.
The other 20 percent of infected people get mild flu-like symptoms, such as a high temperature, headache and body aches. There may also be a rash or swollen lymph glands. This is called West Nile fever.

Symptoms may last a few days, although they can last several weeks. Dr. Levy successfully resolved a long-standing case of West Nile infection using intravenous vitamin C.

In light of the health threat posed by the West Nile virus, supplemental nutrition is imperative for older Americans to enhance their immunity. Several nutrients enhance the human immune system, in particular vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zinc and nucleotides (DNA parts) [Nutrition Reviews 60: S40-45, 2002; J Leukocyte Biology 71: 16-32, 2002; J Infectious Diseases 182: S5-10, 2000], and should be included in a good multivitamin.

Quercetin, found in red apple peel and red onion, and also available as a food supplement, resists the Herpes simplex virus [Antiviral Res. 1993 Dec;22(4):327-31], the Papilloma virus [Carcinogenesis. 2001 Jul;22(7):1069-76], the SARS coronavirus [Pharmazie, volume 55, 129–32, 2000], adenoviruses, rotaviruses, paramyxoviruses, polio virus, parainfluenza and respiratory synctial virus. [Journal Medical Virology, volume 15: 71–79, 1985; Microbiologica, volume 13, 207–13, 1990]

Allicin from freshly chopped garlic (a clove in a food blender produces up to 13,000 micrograms of allicin whereas most garlic pills provide little if any allicin), is active against herpes simplex virus type 1, herpes simplex virus type 2, parainfluenza virus type 3, vaccinia virus, vesicular stomatitis virus, and human rhinovirus type 2. [Planta Medica 1992 Oct; 58: 417-23]

Selenium, a trace mineral, is active against poliovirus and the coxsackie virus.
Am J Clinical Nutrition 2004 Jul; 80:154-62; J Nutrition 2003 May;133:1463S-7S]

Most likely, garlic, quercetin and selenium, in addition to vitamin C, are active against West Nile virus. If you or a loved one develops West Nile virus, locate a physician who performs intravenous vitamin C therapy and undergo immediate treatment.
