The animals were once forced to live in squalid surroundings but now they're beginning a fresh start in life.
The 48 dogs were handed over by their owner this week and 15 of them have been taken in by pet charity Almost Home Animal Rescue in Moira, Co Down.
If they hadn't found shelter, the pups could have been put down.
"They were in quite good condition considering where they had come from and what they had obviously been living with and quite badly matted coats," said Karen Matthews from the charity.
"They've all now had first vaccine. They all had an extensive flea problem. That's all now been treated, they've been wormed and we've done a good bit of socialisation with them so far."
It's thought that some of the dogs could be pregnant so they'll be scanned by the vet next week.
Karen continued: "It is a real fear that they could be. We're living in hope that they'll not be. Some of them are quite young - the five and six month old ones won't be. We know that they're fine, so we'll get the older ones scanned to be safe and we'll take action as needed from there."
A new life now beckons for the pups, however it may be some time yet before they're all rehomed.
