Rescues who neuter young pups..

I have noticed one rescue that I check always advertise their pups as being neutered..
Today they have a litter of 12 week olds and they have already been done ...
Is the risk of pups in the future worth it ?

What are the implications of doing it so young?

It is not something I like or would recommend....but I have known a few done this young and none have had any issues that I have heard of.

I guess they are looking at the rescue situation at the moment and thinking it is worth it.

personally I think it's disgusting, poor babies. I know of a rescue that does that and they won't let pups go to their new homes until after they are neutered, therefore pups are getting on for four months before they recieve any socialisation, and guess what? They are being returned and some even destroyed because the rescue was so short sighted. Dogs should be allowed to mature before neutering. They are causing as many problems as they solve. Education is surely worth a try before putting these babies through that.

it is disgusting, but if humans could be trusted in the first place they would probably not be in rescue 6 months is early enough at NESSR

I can't believe it! I thought young pups in resacue went to the new homes wiht an undewtaking (usually on the contract, no?) to have them neutered asap, but once they were old enough.

Both my male dogs wereneutered at 7 months which I think is too early but I took the advice of my vet at the time who I trusted. I wasn't going to breed from them and didn't want them to have the opportunity of reproducing should the chance arise, even by accident.

IMO, 6 months should be the very earliest a dog is neutered and unless there is some life threatening medical condition that meant it had to be done, neutering at such a young age should be banned.

Is there any come back on the vets who perform these surgeries on pups so young? If not there should be.

My personal thoughts are that dogs should be allowed to mature.

But, there are places that will neuter at 8/10 weeks old (not just rescues) - I have been to see pups brought from breeders, the pups were not going to be destined for showing/breeding and the breeder wanted to ensure that the dog was not used for breeding.
From what I hear from some people in the US, it is much more common over there.

For the people who have said its disgusting and should be banned etc.....what problems have they known with dogs who had this surgery preformed so young?
As I said, I don't agree, but I have yet to hear anything terribly bad from the adult dogs who were done so young.
