Gob smacked.

This morning while driving to work on my usual route through a small village, the Escort van which was in front of me hit a cat which had ran across the road.

The van could not had avoided it (he wasnt speeding and the cat just ran straight out at him),but he didnt even slow down and more importantly-didnt stop.I stopped, then went to the cat to see how badly injured it and it was quite bad.

I rang the doorbell on the bungalow opposite because this is where it was running to and a lady came out who was upset when i described the cat.She then shouted at someone in the house "Andrew, the cat has been hit-get your gun".

I was absolutely gobsmacked at how quick she came to this descision before even seeing the poor thing.Admittingly,it was dying (blood comming from nose and mouth) and nothing could have been done to save it,but i would have atleast tried.

I stayed for a little while stroking the poor thing to put it at ease and left just as Andrew came out of house with gun.

OMG!!!! That's horrendous, is it even legal?? Poor little kitty. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to own animals!

Christ Steve, what a trauma to have to deal with on your way to work. I know we don't have to stop after running over a cat (thank God I never have though), but you would have thought if he had had an ounce of conscience he would have stopped wouldn't you. As for the couple with the gun, that was even more scarey! Pour yourself a stiff drink now you're back home, it must have been a horrendous experience for you.

I dont know about everyone else, but i personally couldnt destroy my own family pet myself-i would have taken it to the vets to be PTS.

I've thought about this ever since it happened this morning and no Dani-it wasnt a good start to the day.

poor Steve
I've only once seen a cat run over and that was over 30 years ago and I can still remember it Fortunatly/unfortunatly it died at the scene so there was no second, gun, trauma.
Go and sit in the sun and give Vegas a big cuddle and be grateful we're mostly nice people - the gun-toters are the minority, sorry you had to find one.

To think as well that last night,i released a baby Hedgehog into the wooded bit of field behind house and was still in a good mood. The Hedgehog had managed to get into my garden and although would have loved for him/her to make it its home (voracious appetite for slugs/snails)-Vegas just wouldnt leave it alone,so it had to go.
