Wireless connections? (Risks)

In this modern world the use of wireless connections has increased greatly but do you know the risks that you could be running if you don't encrypt your wireless connections to your router.
This runs from legally downloading films, software, mp3’s, child porn all the stuff that you can be accused of doing.
The police will come to you because the person that is doing this is using YOUR connection and your IP address.
All because someone has been piggy backing in on your wireless signal from your router to your pc's/ laptops. All they have to do is sit outside your house and if they get a signal then they are in and can surf on your connection and download anything they want.
If they can gain access to your connection this now means that they are on your network and can access you shared files on your pc/laptop I’m sure that you all have seen the shared files/folder that is a standard part of windows.

You might say that you got a firewall it won't help you because you have told the firewall to allow network traffic through so it won't detect anything or stop the connection.

I don't want to scare anyone with this post but just make sure you protect yourselves and your family from piggy backers

Oh god Leo - I'm terrified now - never even thought of that about child porn and whatever I think I am just going to have to run wires to the pcs cos I can't understand this damn encryption thing - why can't they make it easier to do then with step by step instructions for thickos like me.

Sorry Foxy it wasn't my intension to scare you in your case you can encrypt your kids pc's since you can access the USB thingys thats where the code needs to go, but since you do not know where it goes on the laptop you this will loose the internet connection when the signal is encrypted for your kids systems (unless it can read the encrypted signal but if it can do that whats the point of encrypting )yours won't need it cause you are connected to router via the cable and not wireless.

Someone we both know can help you Foxy can do it online it just means that you'll be up and down the stairs for the first one, because it's the same process for the other and same code it jst means that the kids will have to wait just for a bit untill it's done it won't take long (she says)

You and other users like you are not thick you just don't understand what they are saying it's like me talking russian to you your not thick cause you can not understand.

If they could give you a picture guide on how to do with clear text then most ppl would be able to sort it out for themselves.

Hits the nail on why this thread has not more comments on because not everyone will admit they they don't know how to do it. Cause your not telling me that you are the only user that has looked at this thread with a unsecure wireless connection and do not know how to do it.
