War Horse. The real story.

Anybody watch it ?

Very sad and amazing. My Granddad was in the Calvary the Lancers. I remember him telling me he use to ride a black horse and as I was into horses and working at a riding stables and he told me how to get a good shine on a black coat.

I watched it, horribly sad what happened to some of the horses at the end of the war, and after they survived so much

I felt that too. I shed a few tears at the end.

Yes the story of Warrior deserves to be better known. Although it is hard for us to take, the best thing for those horses was to be slaughtered as there was no spare rations for horses and their meat fed the thousands of PoW etc.

So they contributed to the war effort even in death.

I too got quite emotional at certain points. I found it poignant and haunting and I just felt so grateful for all that they (both men and horses) endured and suffered.

I read the book and cried my eyes out!

I dont think I could watch the film or any real accounts of these horses as they would upset me so much.

I cant even watch any war films based on fact either.

My Granddad used to teach new recruits to ride .

I didn't find it as upsetting as i thought I would. I know it was the logical thing to do to leave the horses behind, but I can't help but see it as a betrayal.
