The quality of acting and writing is much better nowadays - we have Homeland, Lost (before it went pear shaped), Sherlock, Dr Who, Torchwood, Oz, The Shield, SouthLand, The Wire, Battlestar Galactica (a remake for you
), all the Stargates, True Blood, The Fades, The Walking Dead, etc, etc.
Farscape, Serenity, carnival (I think it was called) basically all them fantastic shows that Fox canceled so they had so shorten them and rush the end of the story
