Excellent example of why the BBC is"state"funded, absolutely brilliant. The scripwriter worked very closely with the late aurthor before her death & every script was read to her before they went started to film. The scriptwiter was interviewed on Radio 4 & said that she insisted that this was done. One scene was altered for the author, who sadly died from breast cancer just before they started filming.

Can't wait for the next series.

The books BTW are about the author's life & were & still are best sellers

An excellent programme - probably because the author kept an eye on the script.

I really enjoyed it - still have the last one to watch. I didn't want the series to end.

Yes, we're loving it too. I am going to buy the books on my Kindle too- soon. I think she wrote about 5 didn't she? maybe more, all revolving around the East End after the war years. Viewing figures are excellent so we're not the only ones glued to the screen on Sunday nights.

I thought it was one of the few watchable things on the telly, will now look out for the books. What a shame the author died before it was aired.
