Cadaver Search Dog?

Does anyone know whether there are any specialist dog teams in the UK who deal with wilderness and cadaver recovery searches?

I know there are a number of these teams in the US, but not sure about over here.

When I worked in kennels we often had a group of 4 collies which came in. 2 were family pets...one was a trained search dog and the other was a pup in training, he and his owner travel out to earthquake and disaster zones but instead of trying to find the living people, his job is to find the bodies after all the live ones are thought to have been rescued.

a little OT but I saw a programme about a dog in the US who finds bodies under water. He`s simply amazing. They take him out on an open boat, and search the area the boat sunk or what ever and he barks when they pass the spot. They think he`s scenting gases.

i looked into this a while ago. however one of the requirements before you can start this is you have to be trained in mountain rescue, then if your lucky your selected to work with the dogs.

I read a book a few years back which included the story of the very first dog that did that kind of underwater searching for bodies. It blew me away!

It must be a fairly gruesome job at times, but also worthwhile - and I am sure many of the families who want to put their family member to rest very much appreciate the work these dogs and their handlers do.

I remember watching the disaster dogs searching after 9/11. They were amazing.
