this is a link from the people that power the dog web board, which has downloads of all different coloured and styles of skins. i take it that they are professional in graphic/web design and not kids in their bedrooms.

explain to me how a colour change will affect the way the board will run?
to me its no different than changing the colour of the font or the style of the font it only affects the way in which it is displayed or maybe give the member an option to chose what colour it is displayed in on their system just default would be the brown.

Most of them are made by people in their bedrooms, they are not designed by professionals. Have you seen some of them? (yuk!) Good on the kids for having a go, but there's no way I'd let any of my sites have such an amateur looking design.

Where did anyone say that? If you read what I said, I said "it's not just how it looks that has been modified, it's also how it works." Which means that we couldn't just use one of those 'amateur' free templates, because they have not been customised in terms of how they run as well (like Dogweb has).
