Would like to hear from Large breed owners on their pups development/growth.
There is so much conflicting information regarding Cane Corso's in regards to the standard - every one I read says something entirely different, I've seen Corso's reported being as large as 30in weighing in at 154lbs.
My own pup will probably go well over standard at the rate he seems to be growing. You have the dogs from Italian lines and the new American Type, as a general rule of the thumb a Corso shouldn't stand over 25" but as long as there is health and the dog can function it shouldn't matter if they are a little bigger

Here's a little taken from ENCI & Italiano Standard:

HEIGHT AND WEIGHT
Height at the withers

For males from 64 cm. to 68 cm. For females from 60 cm. to 64 cm. With allowance of ± 2 cm.
Weight

Males from 45 to 50 Kg. ratio weight/size O.710(Kg/cm). Females from 40 to 45 Kg. ratio weight/size 0.680 (Kg/cm).
And taken from another...

Height: Minimum height for adult males is 24 inches. The minimum height for adult females is 22 inches

Weight: Minimum weight for adult males is 100lbs. The minimum weight for adult females is 80lbs

While the larger size is preferred, it should not come at the expense of the dogs working ability or movement.
So, from one Corso owner to another, I'd just enjoy her trying not to reflect too much on the breed standard itself as all say completely different with conflicting information.

However, if I look back at photos of him at around a year, he has filled out so much and other leo owners tell me there's more to go till about 3. You sound like you're doing everything right so I wouldn't worry, maybe she's going to be a big girl - what height are her parents? If they're really big, there's a good chance she'll follow suit.
Luchi is 26" at the withers so far, which is maximum permitted height for the breed standard her parents fall within the breed standard, and her sisters are all smaller then her. she probably gets the size from one of her great great grandparents

He was raw fed till 3 then his tummy took a disliking to it he still has some raw with a good quality kibble.

A bernes's skeletal is not mature till 18 months and they are fully grown at around 2.

Ollie's dad is a big lad.
Ollie is a big guy too. Didn't realise Bernese where so big lol. Luchi is "meant" to be 40 - 45 kg, no one told her that lol

As for the skin, it depends on the breed, but Jed still has masses that you could grab, some dogs are meant to have loose skin even when fully grown.
He use to have really noticeable growth spurts and you would wonder if he would ever stop he did at 80kg, and yes Labman you can feel his ribs easily, he is just a giant
I read that corso's are meant to be a fairly tight skinned breed, thinking madam definitely has a fair bit of growing to do yet.

even in the last few months he has put on another 5 kilos........now weighing 48 kilos.
8 months is no age for a large breed to even think about stoppin growin!
You're gonna have a huge beast!!
I think you are right Miss Massive Beastie

At 8 months your puppy should still grow a little more in height . Even when they reach their full height and stop growing taller, large breeds don't 'drop in body' until they mature fully and this can be 18 months/2 years +.
As your dog matures the skin folds should fill out though some dogs retain a little loose skin. As Silv says you may have a huge beast in the making
Thanks Minihaha

I expect he will gain 5-10 kilos in the next two years or so, though he won't fully mature till he's four or five years old.
Thanks everyone for your input on this, I know that different breeds mature differently, but I definitely see a pattern. Bless Miss Luchi, I knew I was getting a big dog, but of course she had to turn out to be massive

On the plus side our vet told us Luchi is in great shape, and he thinks she will reach 50kg I'm hoping not more, but wont be placing any bets

Thanks Nikki, I know there is so much variance, and that even in italy itself there are two different breed standards. the American dogs seem to have a lot more size and bone to them. Luchi is bred from Imported Italian stock, to FCI standard. It does not matter to me, she will not be bred or shown, she is just a much loved pet. As long as she is healthy I am happy.
