Noakes ~ Beautiful Boy Needs Very Loving Home – 1yo Scruffy Lurcher

NOAKES

**UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Noakes would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.
Key Points: Playful & affectionate once he knows you, nervous of strangers, needs someone willing to work with him, young puppy at heart, dog friendly, walks to heel, knows basic tricks.

This delicious boy is Noakes. He is a broken coated lurcher boy, likely with some bearded collie in the mix, who is approx 1 year old now. Dear Noakes was taken off the streets only to find himself in a pound with a time over his head. Thanks to the mediation of Rescue Helpers United, however, he was taken out and transported to us. He was in poor condition upon arrival, but has since put on a lot of weight and is looking much better. We can't wait to see him in a loving home though, where he can continue to put on weight and condition.

~ Personality ~
Generally: Very loving and cuddly once familiar with you, nervous of strangers, goofball, playful, bouncy, on the cusp of blossoming & just needs a loving home.
Noakes has not had the best start to life and arrived to us an extremely timid and untrusting young dog. It is so sad to see such a young dog so traumatised by people.

Noakes has been with us for 3 months now, however, and has made some huge improvements. He is now familiar with all our kennel staff, and is super affectionate and playful with them. When comfortable with you, he shows himself to be a big bouncy goofball, reminding you that he is still just a pup at heart. He really has come on splendidly whilst in our kennels, but we feel he very much needs to find a home, be it permanent or a foster placement, so that he can get one-on-one attention and truly flourish to his full potential. We feel we are just scraping the surface of his beautiful personality, and really he just needs a chance to prove himself.

Noakes is currently still nervous of strangers, the degree of which very much depends on how he is approached. Slow and steady is the way to this boy’s heart, if you push him too far or too quickly he can try to flee, panic if he can't, and air snap out of pure terror. It is very clear that Noakes does not want to react aggressively; it will only happen if he feels he has no other choice. Because of this we feel that Noakes should not be around young children until some work has been done on regaining his trust and building his confidence. If you allow him time to realise that you won’t hurt him, he quickly becomes a puddle of goo.

Noakes has had some basic training whilst with us, and will sit and give the paw. He is very much a foodie and so training is a doddle. Giving him things to do also helps him adjust to stressful situations, and once he is in a home this could be a fantastic bonding activity. We really believe that Noakes has the potential to completely transform once in a loving and steady home environment with daily work on his current issues, he just needs that very special someone to give him the opportunity.

~ In the Home ~
Generally: Not yet in a home.
Noakes has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. The home environment will be a very new experience for this young boy, but if just given a bit of time to adjust to the radical changes, he should settle down very well. This boy is really crying out for a home so that he can experience living and loving people and get the attention he so badly needs. We are appealing for a foster home for this beautiful lad, ideally someone who is up for the challenge of showing this boy that the world isn’t really all that scary.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Good with other medium-large dogs, can be boisterous with smalls.
Noakes is in general good with other dogs, though he may need to be watched with very small canines in case he gets too over-excited or rough. He really enjoys the company of other dogs, and would benefit hugely from living with at least one other well-adjusted dog who can show him the ropes and help him to realise that he doesn’t have to be wary or distrustful. Noakes is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~
Generally: Walks to heel, travels well, care needed if approached by strangers.
Noakes walks very well on the lead and is happy to trot alongside you, the only exception being if something frightens him. Noakes’ first reaction is to flee the scene should something scary happen, so some care needs to be taken when walking him in public places to ensure he doesn’t slip his collar. Noakes also isn’t suitable to be let offlead yet and will need a lot of owner bonding before his recall would be dependable. This is definitely something that is achievable down the line though. Noakes travels well in the car, and is a doddle to take anywhere.

~ Where Am I? ~
Noakes is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Noakes is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Noakes, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Noakes, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: or Fostering Page:.

Thank you.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us.

**UPDATED: 7th JULY 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Noakes would love an experienced foster home to help him get ready for a forever home of his own.

Noakes recently had a private session with the very talented Madaboutgreys Photography (http://www.madaboutgreys.com/), and now has some stunning photos that really show his wee soul.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally: Has some unpredictability with other dogs, will get better with further socialisation.
Noakes has a history of being great with other dogs, but in recent weeks he has started showing some unpredictable behaviour that means he needs caution when being introduced to other dogs. We feel this is linked with the stress Noakes is currently under in kennels, and are desperately appealing for a dog-free foster home for him so that he can learn to relax, get some TLC and so that this relatively new issue can be worked on. Noakes is not a ‘bad’ boy at heart and we feel this dog-related issue can be overcome with a bit of time, repetition and patience.
