Dog couldn't stand

My American bulldog had an episode today which I don't understand. He seemed fine this morning then about midday he put himself to bed upstairs and wouldn't come down. We tried for an hour but when he stood his back legs kept shaking and he kept crying and didn't seem to be able to stand. We carried him downstairs and took him to the vet who couldn't find anything wrong with him. He still seems to be very lathargic and hasn't eaten much. He is walking again but more like plodding and not his usual bouncy self. Any ideas?

Sounds like Chris said. Could you maybe take him for some hydrotherapy therapy.

Did you check with his vet? Maybe he got hurt? Like Chris said he might've hurt his muscle or pinched nerve (as my dog had once). I hope everything is fine and gets better .

does read like a trapped nerve or muscle injury. Poor boy, maybe he did it going down stairs?

Do you have a decent animal massage person near you? I'd be getting him massaged if I were in the position and that was all the vet could say.

Sounds scary! Have you thought about bringing him to another vet to get a second opinion? Seems like something quite serious for it to just go away on its own. Maybe you should get an Xray done? A limp for my Amstaff was a torn ligament (CCL). I would look further into it if I were you.
