Socialization

Hi,
Well i had to collect Tom from school today and decided to take Meg with me.I tend to keep away from schools with the dogs, they tend not to like it anyway, school not dogs,i thought it would be good for her to be surrounded by lots of noise, children, adults, cars etc.
She loved every minute of it and was very happy to roll over on her back for a belly rub from anybody who gave her attention. Her tail never stopped wagging
She is one little confident pup and at the moment nothing seems to bother her at all.

Its a good idea, but just make sure that Meg isn't put in a position where she feels scared ... it sounds as though she has a bombproof tempermant though, so that's great. I just speak with experience in that I wanted my GSD to have as much socialisation as possible and so I always let children say hello to her as a pup. Unfortunately on one occasion four young children jumped all over her and scared her to death, since then she has always been wary of children she doesn't know. So just bear in mind that there is both positive and negative socialisation.

I took Luca to the school once. She hid behind my legs while we were waiting for my girls to appear, then she popped out to say hello, then dragged me off to the car

My grandaughters school does not allow dogs on the premises, shame really as Kiah is always asking for Jessie to come and 'pick her up'. One chap brought his old Staffie, very pleasant dog, and was told not to bring the dog onto school premises again.

No dogs allowed at my kids school either, but I can totally see why as not all children are comfortable around dogs and let's face it there are too many irresponsible owners out there who, at the least could leave poo in the playground and at the worst bring an aggressive dog.

I used to take Pepper when she was small enough to carry and I didn't put her down, that way I could also control the attention she got, she was very good. But that was before she got as bouncy as she is now!

I always try to walk the boys when school kicks out, it's good for them, but kids don't approach dogs like they used too!! plus if they want to they always ask first if they can stroke them

Have to say I agree with that, fortunately the majority of dog owners are probably responsible when they they collect there kids, but it's the morons with the dogs that let them mess on the grounds and do other bad things that spoil it for everyone else. So the school inevitiably bans dogs in the school. Which I do agree with as not all kids are comfortable round dogs and the dog doenst really have a right to be in the grounds.

Gosh I'm a grump today
