so proud

just thought i would share what max did today and it is something good for once! i have been following sb's advice and trying to teach max an instant drop to stop him from running at other dogs. well he is a quick learner but today he stunned me. i have been doing it in the garden and house and he has totally got the hang of it wiithout distraction but when out its another matter. he has been on a lunge rein for a while but today i saw a dog in the distance that i knew was friendly so i thought i would give max a trial. he hadnt seen the dog but i let him off the lunge and left him sniffing round till he noticed it. as soon as he saw it he started to move. i waited for a second then i said max drop! i didnt expect him to do it but he did!!!!! then he even responded to a max come!!! the good thing was after i had put him on the lead and got a bit nearer i was able to say ok go play to him as i know the dog. i was so amazed he did it as on the lunge rein he has been very hit and miss and i spend most afternoons grass skiing! he may never do it again but today he did and i am very proud!!!!

That is excellent Katy you have every reason to feel proud of Max, and of yourself. It is a difficult exercise to teach but what a good feeling when it actually works ! It was fortunate that you were able to reward Max by letting him play with the other dog. That should help to reinforce his understanding that dropping does not mean no fun and games.

Well done and keep up the good work
