Has there ever been a census done on this forum about how many of each dog breed is ownedand by whom: male or female.

Don't think its ever been done.
That list looks like the list of breeds on insurance pages, which I've been browsing today.... as there isn't a northern inuit, utonagon or parson russell..... and there are quite a few of those on here!

You could set up polls ?
Maybe break it down into the different groups ie Pastoral, Utility etc [ a poll for each ] ?

You would need one for `other` as well, perhaps listing the unrecognised breeds / types [ like Lurcher, NI`s etc ], and `other crossbreed` then collate results of each poll ?

It would need to be made clear that if owning more than one of a breed to note it in the comments for actual number and to add any others in their appropriate poll or you will get comments like ` I ticked that one but I also have a....` which would make collation difficult

How to do a poll is here :

Found it

http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?t=54638&page=3

That one is just which breeds are owned within the group headers though, I think Colin is looking for something more detailed like which breeds within the groups and how many of them ??

edited to add, I really should read a few posts after the one I`m answering in case its been covered already, doh !

I'm not entirely sure how you could do that in a poll though?
There'd be far too many options!

Thats why I thought perhaps done by group, only listing the breeds in that group, so one for Gundogs, one for pastoral etc [ and one for `other` ].
That way it would prevent each poll being too big and people could put in a comment how many they have of each breed.

For instance, I would vote on the Border Collie option in pastoral then post to say Four Border Collies owned,
and click the Lurcher option and `other crossbreed` option in a non-recognised group then comment `One Lurcher and One other crossbreed owned`

Then Colin [ as it was his idea ] can read through the posts to note the numbers of dogs and collate everything, so there would be an overall `breeds owned` from the poll and actual numbers of dogs per breed [ or type / mix ] from the comments.
Thats the way I would do it anyway but someone else can probably think of something easier
