Dog insurance!!

Was just pondering whether its worth paying nearly £50 a month out when i have never claimed once in 12 years!!i know theres the risk of a major vets bill, but was wondering what all the other dogwebbers do?If i saved it it'd be nearly £600 per year!!I'd be interested to know how many people actually insure their dogs, so please reply to this post!!

...and whilst we're on the subject - if you do rate insurance - which company?, and which to avoid?

I'll have to decide soon - and I'll go for insurance. It's a lot to pay out but the risk of getting either a huge bill for a major illness or, possibly worse, never-ending bills for a chronic condition, are too high. If you're disciplined enough to put the equivalent in a savings account ready for when it's needed - good for you. Don't think I could.

i insure with tescos for £11 a month although everybody on cd told me i should be with pet plan but they are 3 times as much and i am just hoping he doesnt get anything that costs £6000 as that is tescos limit for any one illness! Have always had cat insured with them and he got cancer and had to have a leg off and tescos were very good and paid out extremely quickly with no quibbles so am happy with their service

Goodness is that how much it costs. Dont have any insurance for mine because they all have pre existing conditions which I think would be unhelpful and go against us when applying for insurance. However, on saying that I have never really made enquiries.

Hi Candy At the moment I pay £20 a month for Amy and have not claimed as yet cos the excess is so high. As Amy is 13 with a bad heart I dare not cancel now in case she needs meds. for her problem soon I look on the 'insurance' at £5 a week as my entertainment money..I don't smoke, only drink a little wine at home and don't go out a much so looked at that way it is not a lot to spend

When we had our Bullmastiff... it cost around £10 a month, but we had to pay the first £50 of any treatment.

When she had her epileptic fit the total bill was around £1200... thank goodness for the insurance, when we asked to have here cremated seperatly, it was extra to be done alone and cost £300-ish that came out of our own pocket.
