Do you HAVE to cut off a dogs whiskers for the show ring?

Something I noticed whilst watching the English Springers go round the ring was all but 1 had no whiskers!

Is this just reserved to certain breeds or does it happen in all circles?

Do you have to do it? I'm just not all that keen!

I always snip my girls whiskers off, I think without them it shows their true face shape. My Bella has the thickest white whiskers I have ever seen.....lol.

In some breeds they trim the whiskers to give a cleaner look to the face - I never did. I prefer whiskers on.

In America Pugs are always shown with the whiskers off, and some exhibitors here like to do it. I never did with Delilah and she did just fine. They have whiskers for a reason and i didn't see the point of trimming them just for a show class

As far as i know, Labs and tollers dont get whisker trimmed!! We have been told that we "have" to trim the tip of the labs tail though Again, we ignored that advice, our dogs have lovely shaped tails without having them trimmed!

A lot of times its personal preference, but if your dog is a pet mostly i wouldn't worry about it. They use their whiskers to judge distances like a cat i believe, so you wouldn't want him having an accident out on a walk
