The Things People Say.....

Going to Agricultural Shows is great fun for me, especially as Isla's travellling companion is an Italian Spinone - a breed the general public don't really see much of. This leads to people finding the need to either guess the breed, tell you what breed it is or get the breed completely wrong! I just love listening to some of the conversations my friend has had, here are some examlpes.....

General Public: "Is that a French breed?"

Drizzle's Mam: "No, it's an Italian Spinone"

GP: Oh well, I was close!"

GP: "Ooh that's one of those Truffle Hunting dogs isn't it?"

DM: "No, he's a Gundog HPR breed"

GP: "Yeah but they use them for Truffle Hunting, that's what they were bred for"

DM: "No, they're bred to hunt, point and retrieve game."

GP: "No they're truffle Hunting dogs."

DM: "OK........"

GP: "Is that a Labradoodle?"

DM: "NO!"

GP: "Is that an Italian Spinone?"

DM: "Yes it is."

GP: "Ah, we've got one at home"

*Which begs the question, why ask what breed it is if you already have one?!*

And a couple from Saturday when I had Oscar in tow.....

Pointing to Oscar:

GP: "Is that a Bloodhound?"

Me: "Nope!"

Pointing to Oscar and Drizzle:

GP: "Is that his Daddy?"

Me: "No they're completely different breeds."

GP: "Are you sure?"

Me: "As sure as I can be!"

Truffle hunting dog? LOL. I thought they used pigs for that.

I know what you mean though...the 'not knowing the breed' thing is a relatively new phenomenon with me since having my Slovak. So far most conversations have considered of:

Them: "Oh my, what is she?"
Me: "A Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer"
Them: "A rough haired what?"
Me: "Slovakian Pointer"
Them: "Riiggght..." followed by this face: as if I am making it up.

Is that a Labradoodle...................

My friend has 2 Spinone's and she's bred a couple of litters. I know for a fact she's asked on a regular basis if they're Labradoodles.

hahaha... don't we just lurrrve the General Public :P
Especially at Agris...

Overheard in the rabbit tent years ago: people looking at some Rex rabbits (the ones with the amazing short plush velvet fur): "They shave them to look like that, you know."

Hahaha! I get the exact same reaction with Oscar, inspite of Vizsla's being quite a well known breed!

Someone asked if he was an Otterhound, which is fair enough, I can see the resemblance. But a Labradoodle, my mate was most offended!

I had a black rex rabbit as a kid. The amount of times I got asked "What's wrong with his hair?" was unreal (I used to walk him on a harness). It always led to me trying to explain he was a rex, which then led to the conversation about why I had decided to name my rabbit Rex!

Sooo funny.

I often get asked, when I'm out with Len:

Idiot: "Is that a fox?"

Me: "Yep"

I'm laughing at all the goofy things people say.
My one -on hearing Missy was a rough coated Parson Russell - "oh yes, I have one at home just like her - only he's a Fox Terrier"

It can keeps you smiling for days when you think back to what people said about your dogs. I had to put my dogs in a kennel for a week once and by the time I got back, they didn't want to givethem back and said they had the funniest personalities of any dog they had ever met.
