Gemma, Pedigree Lakeland Terrier, DOB 07.02
Gemma, Pedigree Lakeland Terrier, DOB 07.02
Her Story: Gemma is a 7 year old Pedigree Lakeland Terrier with her little hyper ways. She was owned from a puppy until recently when she was surrendered into rescue by her family who couldn't cope with her antics in the car. In truth they obviously weren't terrier people as her car issues were cured with us in a trice. Gemma is neutered, vax'd and chipped.
Homing Requirement: Gemma needs a family with their 'feet on the floor' who admire terriers for their 'little serious ways' and who can relieve her of the huge responsibility she so readily wants to take on her shoulders. Terriers are managed rather than trained! Secure garden with exit management as with any terrier required. Gemma is conversant with respectful children, fostered with 3 dogs and 3 cats. A busy dog-centred life is suiting our Gem very well!
Advert: Gemma is a highly strung little waif who easily gets herself in a 'paddy' if allowed. Conversely Gemma copes with everything that comes her way, as long as she understands ... all is taken care of, you are safe, just enjoy. Gemma therefore could be a nightmare in the wrong hands where she sets the agenda and an absolute sweetheart where she has that continual reassurance and praise "aren't YOU the good girl"! In fact, Gemma goes all weak at the knees with praise and in her aloof little way cherishes her human approval and she offer little licks which are to be treasured. Somehow you suspect Gemma was a huge disappointment in the wrong family ... we adore her.
So little Gemma is like a little toddler, busy in her life, sensitive to her humans who shape her behaviour and underneath it all so chuffed when she pleases. Her little mishaps like a 'hard-mouth' assertion if you handle her too fast - need not be taken seriously, but with negotiation: "Ok don't it like that - lets do it like this!" She is listening and ever so compliant. Distraction and substitution are our key words for terriers ... never confront. Gemma needs a terrier experienced person/family who knows that her safety is paramount. Gemma's beauty is unquestionable, but her 'beauty of spirit' shines through in understanding care ... she is a Gem.
***PLEASE NOTE: We are a rescue finding dogs their forever homes. We usually ask for a minimum donation of £150 at the time of adoption, for each dog, to help us continue helping homeless dogs***.
