You are doing the right thing - asking for a skin scrape!
Also, I would ask for a blood test too, as that can show up allergies.

so we have been to the vets tonight , they want her on a fish and potato diet for 6 weeks nothing else , its a exclusion diet as they think its a food allergy , poor nell , thanks for all your help will keep you informed , shes had a anti itch injection tonight and shes on antibiotics too , bless her :smt005

With a bit of luck this will be the problem and can be quickly treated with the right kind of diet.Good luck and i hope all goes well
