Puppy poos under table....

Ok so Sasi has only been here 9 days, she is doing soooo well with going outside for pees BUT unless I can get her to the plantpots at the top of the garden to do her business (pic in sweetpea thread ) then she prefers to poo under the kitchen table.

Its not a huge hassle as the floor is tiled & shes on dry food so its not messy, but I just want to encourage her the right way to do it outside.

Any ideas or advice please

Is the location very far away?

Are you taking her out on the lead?

Do you leave a little residue there to encourage the behaviour?

Do you give her something there that you NEVER give elsewhere as a reinforcement?

Do you tell her off in ANY way if she empties inside?

Do you manage the environment so that she is unable to empty anywhere bar say her crate and outside?

I dont take her out on the lead, the dogs are in & out of the garden all day long, I go up the garden with her 50% of the time to encourage her to go poo, but unless she manages to get the scent of it in the plantpots, then she wont go, she'll just pee. Even though I hve left one of her lil pressies in the pot for her to get the scent

I do outside, but not indoors, the floor is cleaned as soon as I notice it

[B]Do you give her something there that you NEVER give elsewhere as a reinforcement? I dont understand this question tbh

[I]I dont tell her off, I've never really HAD to raise my voice to any of my dogs, the voice change does it & am sure she will eventually learn the same.I change my tone of voice & carry her & the poo shes done outside & put it & heron the path, she sniffs it & walks away /I]

Sasi isnt crated, she has a bed in the kitchen & so does Ruby. The dogs have the run of downstairs (2 living rooms & a kitchen) plus the back door open most of the day

Having uncontrolled access to anywhere does not help in house training IMHO and leaving the back door open will not necessarily mean your puppy will just eliminate outside.

Dogs can often get strata specific and if it is more convenienet for her to go under the table that is where she will go.

You might have to manage both her and the environment more actively to ensure success.

I realise that she wont just automatically pee/poo outside just because the back door is open, it takes encouragement which is what I am giving her by making sure I go up the garden with her every hour or so when I'm at home & every 2 hours at the moment when am at work. But as I have another dog to consider too that is used to being able to go in & out as she pleases closing the door is not really something I want to change.
Sasi follows Ruby everywhere, if Ruby is out, then Sasi will be out too.

Thanks for the advice

I guess you have to be vigilant and look out for any tell tale signs if she needs to go, then pick her up and put her outside and give her a command to go. Not forgetting to reward and praise her after.

Being quite young also and not having good bladder control functions yet probably doesn't help your situation, especially as they have the run of the downstairs. Good luck Rubster with Sasi .

Block access to the table??

tbh when Im toilet training the dogs dont get out of my sight, if I cant watch 100% then they are crated

I would also get into the habit of taking pup out yourself instead of just having her follow older dog, even if the door is open all the time its good if your dog learns to ask you to go out incase you are somewhere else and they need to go - having open door all the time means your dogs are never really toilet trained and never have to learn to hold it

I have this problem with bandit, he was nearly housetrained then we has the really nice weather and the door was open all the time, once the weather turned he began messing in the house again. More so if he was able to get to the front room.

Now we make sure he is locked out of the front room this room is really only used to have the dogs cage in anyway.

Dont allow him acess all day to the garden.

Went back to basics praising him for going outside.

Asking do you want a wee then going and let him out.
