Barry Sidings Countryside walk, Trehafod, Pontypridd. South Wales.

Name, Location and Info: Barry Sidings Countryside walk, Trehafod, Pontypridd, South Wales. Follow signs to the Rhondda Heritage Park from the M4 and just before the Heritage Park there is a left turn into Barry Sidings.

Barry sidings is a countryside walk, up a mountain It is maintained by the forestry commission and closes at 10pm. At the foot of the mountain is a nice park with a lake (but dogs are not allowed in the lake) so great for kids. However the beauty is the walk up the mountain it takes about 2 hours to get up there!!

Would I recommend it? Definately! It really is beautiful and if you can manage to get to the top it's awesome! In some places its very eerie, trees are huge and you get some great shadows cast.

Positives

Stunning walk and because its uphill, excellent excersize too! Because it's so big you don't bump into many people towards the top - plenty of folks in the park and lower areas tho. Lots of runners and cyclists too. NO motorbikes or quads are allowed which is great!

Negatives

Not sign posted adequately! And not enough places to sit down and have a break.

Other info

Probably not a good idea for the very old or the very young as it can be steep in some places.

Pics!

This one's right at the bottom, look closely its a waterfall!
