Harry - Bedlington x in Leeds

Harry is a Bedlington Terrier x who is around 4 to 5 years old and is currently on foster in Leeds.

The Harry Fact File
Dog status: Good but excitable
Cat status: Cannot be rehomed with cats or small animals
Child status: Good, could be rehomed with children aged 6 years plus who have lived with dogs before
House training: 99%
Home alone: Ok to be left for a couple of hours
Basic training: Knows sit, down, wait and has good recall
Special skill: Jumping in to your arms

Harry is a cheeky chappy, typical terrier through and through. He is full of character and personality but is also a very well mannered house dog.

Harry has been living with other dogs in his foster home and can be rehomed into an existing pack or as the only dog. He is excitable around other dogs and this is an issue which will require further work from a new home. If other dogs are running around and playing excitedly, he gets over-excited and can start to nip them. This is an inappropriate play behaviour rather than aggression. He is currently attending Tailwagger training mainly for the socialising and would like to continue with something similar in his new home.

Harry cannot be rehomed with cats or small animals and this is not negotiable. He will chase cats and has serious intent. Ideally he would be best suited to a home where neighbouring cats rarely visit a garden just in case. His recall is good with his foster home but this will need to be a continued focus for a new home to make sure he has a bombproof recall and can be called away from distractions in case he spots a cat when off lead on a walk.
Harry will need a very secure garden in his new home as he can be an escape artist. Please do not apply to adopt him unless you have good fencing without gaps or are able to organise for your garden to be secure before adoption.

Harry has been fine to be left for short periods however, he does love company and would not be suitable for a full time worker but could be left part time. He is not a demanding dog in the home and is very quiet and well mannered. He loves to go out for walks and explore new places but he does not have high energy requirements to meet. He is a bright dog who would relish mental stimulation and further training. He is also a cuddly and tactile dog who loves to be in contact with the people he bonds to.

Harry has a scruffy curly coat which will need regular upkeep and grooming. Luckily he is very good to handle and enjoys being brushed.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered (if over 6 months), vaccinated, flea treated, wormed and micro-chipped prior to adoption. If a puppy is not old enough to be neutered then this must be carried out at the owner’s expense when old enough, and the relevant form completed by the vet and returned to Hope Rescue. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK. A Pre-Home Interest Form can be downloaded from the Hope Rescue forum.

Harry is undergoing some training with his foster home to work on his lead walking and excitable behaviour around other dogs so his rehoming will have to be delayed for a couple of weeks. You can still register an interest in rehoming him when he is ready.
