Training is nearly over!

Well, we have completed 7 weeks out of the 8 week training course Loui has been a star all the way through and we have all learnt lots from going along. His recall is very good now and that is what we were really concerned about him learning. He has also more or less stopped the jumping up at people outdoors but we are still working on that at home

There is the chance to do a further 8 weeks of training on the advanced course. I don't think we will be doing that as we are very happy with how Loui has done but may consider it at a later date. He really has the nicest temperament and always does as he is asked.

This weeks lesson was a nightmare as Loui was so not paying attention. When I put Loui in the car I also put in his bag compete with his towel to lay on and the treats..... I was in a bit of a rush and didn't give it a thought although I did think he was being extra quiet on the way there! Of course when we arrived I opened the car to see Loui smaking his lips and the lid of the oh so expensive liver treats (£9.50 a tub!!) was laying the other side of the car! Needless to say he wasn't going to do a thing we asked as he was already full up with treats!

Max has done that too! I dumped my training bag in the back and Max scarfed all the liver cake and hotdog bits!

You can make your own liver cake (a bit smelly to make), its way cheaper than £9.50 a tub, and you can freeze it in bags and just get the bag out the night before training...

We only give Max his tea after training, as if he's eaten before, he doesn't even want treats!

I'm also not sure whether to carry on with training classes after the 10 week course is up... I suppose it would be good socialisation for Max, and we can do our Good Citizen exam at the end of it... hmmmm

You can simply bake some liver for treats

I boil the liver for ten minutes & then cut it into fairly small bits

Then I zap it in the microwave until it is crunchy

I also found some Webbox Liver treats in Wilkos for 99p They are little strips of liver that you can break into smaller pieces

Shelley I am so pleased it isn't just me who does things like that then! We had taken along loads of treats one week but for some reason we had used them all up and there was still 25 mins of the lesson still to go. So of course I had to buy these expensive treats so we could get the full effect of the training. Loui also has his dinner when we get back so that he is paying full attention to the treats!

I do make the liver cake and he adores that...I'm so pleased he can't open the door to the freezer or he would be scoffing the lot that's in there too!

We have really enjoyed the classes though and the people (mostly!) have been nice there too. It really makes it a nice and fun place to be for us and the dogs too!
