It bugs me as well.

Some of the adults (I've even heard teachers say it) in cadets say they don't care about the kids spelling as long as they get the idea right. Sorry but if they can't spell in cadets or in High School, how on earth are they going to be once they get into the real world!

So I'm afraid if they don't spell correctly they don't get a pass with me. I'm a stickler for spelling.

Punctuation however....I aim with a machine gun and set it to automatic....

I HATE text speak - and don't even text on my phone in text speak!

I don't really mind bad spelling or grammar on a forum though, as I always imagine the person might either be dyslexic or just not particularly good at English or grammar. I got A levels no problem in English Literature and Language but Maths always baffled me (and still does to an extent!) so I don't feel it is right for me to condemn someone else for not being particularly good at spelling etc.

Text speak though .... grrrrr!

And another thing.......
When did the letter s creep in on the end of "you"? The plural of you is you. It doesn't need an s!

What is sad is when parents can`t spell. I saw a girl called Kait last week. Then there`s Chelsee on Strictly. Why does no-one tell these people?

I am a terrible spelling snob, I just can't help myself. Text speak gets me so worked up I almost break out in a rash. Also can't stand sentences starting with 'like'.

Like, know wot I mean innit peoples??!

Claire, it's cool to find alternative spellings for your child's name these days!

My real issue at the moment is

"You alright there"

Instead of Hello, Good Morning/Evening!

I respond with "Yes, are you alright over there?"

My job involves visiting schools and I always have a look in the cloakrooms and peruse the names above the pegs. It appears many of the parents have just thrown together a few letters in the vague hope it spells something!
