That is the ideal solution if you can manage it
Not at the moment Chris. Food isn't really my issue i can still manage to keep it on schedule. As far as leg stretch goes we have to keep in mind that he's not locked in his crate. The crate is inside the playpen which is 4.5x4.5 feet which i believe is quite a decent amount of space for a little guy like him. ( considering that he's not there all day anyways )

He's staying in the garage for now but soon i'll have to bring him inside as the weather will get really bad ( cold ). That's why im not planning to give him a free pass but to keep him in a confined area as long as he has somewhere''to go''

Oh no...keep in mind though he's not in a small crate. The crate is inside the pen as i mentioned above which has plenty of space for '' both rooms'' . I see all the time people setting up the dog's bed and food on one side and a pad or something on the other with even smaller spaces and it works just fine

your puppy needs to be with you 90% of the time if not 100% at that age he shouldn't be in the garage. My pup is 6 months old have an eye on him all the time he's a good boy but he is a puppy and gets into mischief

I also feel very uncomfortable reading about a quiet 10 week old puppy being penned alone in a garage for 8 hours at a time. I really do not see what made you have a puppy if you couldn't dedicate more time to his welfare.

What worries me as well is wondering what the puppy will be like in a few months time, having had no socialisation either with people, other dogs or with the outside world.

Some years ago my neighbours bought a beautiful GSD puppy who from the day they had him kept him outside during the day and put him in the barn at night and apart from giving him food and water paid little attention to him. By 6 months he kept escaping and by 9 months old he began to show aggressive tendencies towards his owners which got worse as he got older and included any human he saw. Eventually having threatened several people (including me) he bit the owners son and as a result was PTS.

Puppies don't educate and train themselves, that job is up to you as their owner. If you're not prepared to make the effort then find him a good home where someone will!

Perhaps you'd be better off with a stuffed dog rather than a live one!

A couple of things I'm confused about:

When you are home, do you bring the pup inside with you, or is he still kept in the garage?

How much time does he spend with you when you are at home?

No you could not! Why would you want to confine a young dog, an animal who is a social species, to a pen for 8 hours? How big is this pen? Because if it is anything less in size than say 6 foot square, he will be very reluctant to urinate or defecate in such a small area.

It really is not an option to just bung food down for him and then leave him all day - he needs exercise, he needs to be trained - obedience as well as house-training - and he needs to interact with you ... in the house, hence the need for house-training.
