Happy Singletons?

I was reading Steph's thread on multiple dogs and them being attached.

Its something I do think about now with Missy - would she be happy with another for company?

When we first got her we were told she'd be best as an only dog, but we were also told loads of other things and with work, she's left all those other issues behind.

She's a bit bossy with other dogs, and she really does seem to prefer human company.

So, what do you think?
Can dogs (not just Missy) be really happy being singletons?

of course they can My leo Sasha was an only for ages till i ruined it by bringing in other dogs - she's an angel on her own but a right wee b**chbag with others - i think sometimes she plays up just to spite me and its frustrating as i know how good she can be. To be fair now - she's good with the pup but i have to make sure she has her own time 'with mum' and also the same for the pup.

I think you would know if your pooch wasn't happy being a singleton. How can she be when shes got a great mum looking after her welfare

Yes I think some dogs can wheras others do better with company.
My last two dogs which were cavaliers were inseperable and would never have been as happy as only dogs wheras Milo and Shady I believe would be happier as only dogs and not having to share mummys attention.

We are having this debate at the moment, as Ruby will be leaving us at some stage. Will Diesel be lonely without her? We got Ruby to keep D company and we do feel he was happier in himself when she arrived so, i do worry he will go into himself when she is gone. Then again maybe he wont, he may actually be happy having the house to himself and re-bonding with the cats.

Alot of dogs prefer human company to other dogs, he does get a little jealous if we are making a fuss of Ruby, he will come over to get his

If he becomes really unhappy, do we get another dog??? Its a hard one but yes i think some dogs are happier being the only dog.

Well although I have more than one.....I truly feel a dog can be HAPPY alone.
I have friends who only have one dog.....spoilt is not the word.
They are happy and socialised,......yet they can go home and get some peace and one to one time.

Here one to one.....means One Mom...One Lap....and three dogs sat on it

Yes I think they can be happy

ps........also to add to my original thread.....I do think (mine anyway) love thier own breed........and I do feel they recognised BC's. My son's little JRT Pappi...sometimes gets pushed out of the gang.........bless her....I have to tell them .BE NICE TO PAPPI

I think it depends on the dog. The first six years of Jobie's life were spent with other dogs as his primary source of companionship, and I think he misses that since he's used to having a kennelmate that he can play with and who 'speaks his language' as it were (he's never got the hang of playing properly with us, poor sod ) . It's still an improvement on living in kennels so I think he's happy, but he wouldn't say no to a nice girlfriend My mum and I would have one already but of course my Dad says no
