I presume you can't make it home at lunchtime, so how about a dog sitter visit to break up the day, or a couple of days a week at daycare. It is more about allowing her to use her mental energy at this age.
Carole, being positive is a good thing. I don't suppose we know all the circumstances, but what quite often strikes me in this and similar threads is why some people get a dog when they can't really put in the commitment that a dog needs/ought to have.

If we knew we would be out of the house several hours a day, every day, we wouldn't have Max caged up. We just wouldn't have Max. Full stop.
And sleeping? Why would you need to cage a dog for that?
Ours just sleeps on his own bed.

We do leave him for a few hours from time to time - hospital visits and stuff like that. Other than that........

We go to the tip, he goes, barber shop, hotels, pub lunches, a two hour drive to see the grand kids....best passenger in the car..
Maybe we just got lucky.

There are many reasons why pups are crated.
If everyone who owned a dog had to be home all day there'd be a hell of a lot of dogs in rescue. Not all dogs home alone in the day are crated but the OP's dog is a puppy, some Puppies chew anything and everything and a crate is the safest place for them. I had dogs when I worked full time, they weren't crated and they were exercised before and after work. It worked fine, quality time is far more important than quantity, many people are home all day with their dog but rarely interact with it.

I didn't, I understand the use of crates and you don't and I'm not going through it again.

No need to be offensive, I've explained to you in the past why people choose to use crates and you disagree with their use, so no point in repeating ourselves.
