Favourite dog walk

What, where and why is your very favourite dog walk?

It could be an early morning walk, a sunny afternoon stroll or a walk in the dark.

It could be in the countryside, the town, fields or park, or even street. It could be your favourite because you don't see any other dogs, or that you see lots of dogs (for play and socialisation), it could be a picturesque walk or a walk that is from the doorstep and so is handy.

Just interested on why people enjoy the walks they do

I like walks where my dogs are relatively safe to get up to whatever they like so they have the freedom to really open up the throttle. I also like walks that dont involve close contact with other people, mainly other dog walkers and children so the quieter the better. If there is no livestock, thats a bonus too.
But from my personal point of view, I like somewhere that is naturally beautiful and I can see some wildlife. As a keen nature lover and photographer, I do like to walk round and be in awe of my surroundings.
If I can find a walk that combines aspects that suit both me and my dogs then i'll drive relatively far away to enjoy them. So locality isnt an issue for me.
Weather wise, my perfect walk is dry and sunny with blue skies, but cool temperatures so a nice spring or autumn day that is about 10 degrees.

To name my favourite places would be Sherwood Forest (but the heathland on the edge of the forest known as Budby South Forest), Cannock Chase (the area near Shugborough) and Calke Park.

I have so many walks that I really enjoy (beach, woods, forest) but I think my very favourite is first thing in a morning on a nice crisp bright and sunny day, walking up away from my house onto the hills behind and then walking for as long as I like over the rough heather moorland. I can see for miles into the distance on the tops of the hills and we rarely see another soul. There are mountain hare, roe deer, grouse and buzzard for company and I love seeing signs of fox and owl. The dogs love ranging away, quartering the ground for various smells and chasing the odd bunny down into its hole. It gives me a really "wild and free" feeling that is hard to describe, but in the right mood and on the right day it is exhilarating

I am just off out with the dogs now, but will add a few photos when I return.

Wow - some beautiful photos Leanne. I especially love Cannock Chase. I never imagined it would be so gorgeous!

Your ideal walks sound very similar to mine

One of my favourites is the Lomond hills near where I live in Fife.
Early in the morning, long before anyone else is out and about we have the hill to ourselves and I can relax in the knowledge that even if another dog does appear, I have a clear view in all directions and will have plenty of time for evasive manoeuvres ( although in 3 years I've yet to see another dog up there ). Then there are the views, sometimes you just have to stop and think " wow " I've seen some stunning sun rises and bizarre, beautiful low lying clouds when it seems you could be on another planet.

I can't drive and so have to walk in the same handful of places, and most of them are a bit rubbish. My favourite is a lovely little park/nature reserve which used to be a tip not too long ago. It is our little oasis of countryside in the city and the dog and I love it there It's fairly quiet, popular with dog walkers but you don't tend to see anyone else. It's a great place for Gelert to let off steam. I just wish it was a bit closer so we could go more often.

hmm thats a struggle
It depends on my mood. If Its a lovely day and I have nothing to do then Troon beach is my fave - but its quite a drive away. But at the start and the end mine get to meet and zoom about with lots of lovely dogs, then we can walk miles and see noone but birds, they views are lovey and it is so calming its almost like sleeping on your feet you are so refreshed

and the dogs are wet tired and very happy

Or there is the carpark in the sky with its amazing views

But the ruhbard fields have woods and fields and only 5 min from my house

Erskine is a lovely walk

But I think visiting my mum in the highlands is prob the best

Lots of fotos
The end
