Is Stanley Coren worth a read ??

I picked up 3 Stanley Coren books yesterday
How dogs think.
How to speak to dogs .
Why does my dog act that way.

Any thought on these books ..?
Btw i paid £2 for all 3 brand new in my local charity shop

I was going to preface my response with providing that you remember there are differences in outlook and breeds between the US and the UK.

But you have not got Why we love the dogs we do, so this may be immaterial.

But yes, they may make you want to challenge some of his concepts though........

I enjoyed them... yes some of it is Americanised but you expect that, and he still waffles about dominance theory but not to a huge extent.

Mostly they are very readable, you certainly come out having learned something and the How To Speak Dog is very useful indeed, something I would happily recommend to any first-time dog owner.

When I moved last year I had to pare down my books to the minimum, but I kept my Stanley Corens.

As to challenging concepts, they are good springboard from which to leap into learning, and they did lead me into reading a lot more.
